→ guess what this means? it’s tiimmmmeeeee! we’re finally sanding the front-end of the house, which means next we paint, and then officially unpack the rest of our stuff. he also got more trim finished around the door frames and baseboards in the bedroom, but… i didn’t get pictures fast enough before everything got a sheet of a plastic over it, so later, trim pictures. you would.not.believe. the amount of dust sanding creates, it looks like white sands national monument when he’s done for the day. and best of all.. i’m heading to the airport this morning to pick up one of my best friends for a weekend of fun and thrifting!

we now have doors on both bathrooms & the bedroom, we’re shy one door, the closet, and are on the hunt for one. he first built the frame for the door, routed the door for hinges, we went with four hinges instead of the standard two because our doors are 8 ft tall and solid wood.. super heavy. he even got the trim around the door and is now putting the trim around the rest of the doors this week.. such progress, we feel like we can see a teeny tiny light at the end of the tunnel.
on another subject.. the camera and i do not get along when it comes to this master bathroom (hence the black & white today.. a bit more forgiving), the pictures always turn out weird colors, not sharp, so frustrating! entirely the camera i’m sure (; if any of you reading know of easy online software for creating collage photos will you PLEASE send me an email or leave the info in a comment? the software i used closed shop and i have yet to find a simple site for combining multiple photos into one, and can i just say it’s making me a little crazy.

→ privacy in the bathroom!! yay us! the first interior door is officially hung.. it’s tall, all of our inside doors are 96″ to give us the feel of a bigger space in our tiny home. we got an amazing deal, door companies both local and online were pricing this style of molded door at $300 and up and while we only need 6 doors that’s still a lot of moolah. after lots of persistent craigslist browsing we got lucky and found both bathroom doors and the double set of bedroom doors for only $75 a piece. (now we’re on the hunt for the final two for the closet)
the breakdown of above photos: trimmed the excess drywall, cut and installed wood framing, used shims to level out the frame, a tiny trim was needed on the actual door (diy tip: use blue painters tape to prevent splintering or saw marks on your door), routed the door for hinges (second diy tip: a routing tool/template makes hinge cuts extremely easy..we got ours here), new hinges (we’re going with shiny brass.. we saw brass hardware in quantum of solace in the grand hotel and right then & there knew that’s what we wanted), and badabing, badabang, we’ve got a door! (doorknobs on order and paint.. soon)

→ we’ve put off sanding for a hot minute to finish building the cabinets in the kitchen (it’s funny to even say kitchen since the kitchen is also the dining room, the living room, the everything except the bedroom and bathroom.. but anyhoo) since we only had the washer & dryer cabinet left to build. this is day one, the bottom is going to have a shallow drawer, we wanted to lift the washer and dryer up a bit so we didn’t have to bend over to the floor to get out wet clothes, it didn’t create a super deep space but deep enough to get something into, extra space being a bit scarce…and the top will also have a nice deep shelf for storage. as a follow up note, we’ve been using our asko w & d for awhile now and it is seriously the best system we’ve ever used, we highly recommend a set if you’re in the market for a stackable.

→ do you sleep with a noise machine or fan? we sleep with a very loud fan, without that noise we’re completely lost. monday night, 2:30 a.m. and we’re both wide awake because all of a sudden it’s completely silent and that sinking feeling sets in that the power’s out, and it was, until afternoon yesterday. back up for a minute… to get some light in the house i pull open the curtain and cannot believe it but this ↑ is what i was looking at. OYE. it was EIGHTY degrees less than 48 hours ago. it’s kind of an adjustment. we did get everything out of our cargo trailer, we’ve gotten further on the closet, but we feel like boxers dancing around a big to do list. snow, ice, rain, no power. we’re getting there though, we just don’t have much to show for it. have any of you built a house and lived in it at the same time? if you have we know that no explanation is necessary. we’re becoming very well versed in flexibility.

yesterday we threw work to the wind and took the first half of the day off. we did a little sightseeing in boulder and golden, had a picnic lunch in the park, did a bit of thrifting, and had a big dose of a reminder of why we moved here. it is so beautiful, it’s amazing that just 15 minutes outside of our little town it’s wide open views with the rockies in the very near distance.
and….although extremely tempted to do nothing but sit in the sun the rest of the day, we did manage one or two projects. proof… our new closet ceiling light, it’s from lowes (no link because despite having item number & name, it will not come up online). we used daylight bulbs to get the most natural light we could and chose a bigger fixture because our clothes are going to be hung 3 levels high on each side and we need all the light we can get to see everything we plan to cram organize in there. and the other thing we accomplished? we organized about a thousand tools, i swear tools are like rabbits. hmmm.

three projects that moved a bit further along over the weekend.. the bathroom ceiling is up in it’s entirety, now to paint. the can lights in the shower are in & working, as is the fan, and see the speakers in photo two? we’ve got surround sound in each of the rooms (you know all three of them). we’ve got more to show, but this morning.. we’re getting out and about and sightseeing a bit, it’s sunny and beautiful and we just can’t help ourselves.

»»» how was your weekend? ours flew by. it was sunny and warm and that’s the forecast for most of the week, yes to spring (fingers crossed, supposedly a march snow is the norm around here.. phoo!) and we’re loving daylight savings time, why can’t it be this all year round? wouldn’t it be so nice if it was light every single day till 9 p.m.? i’d get so much more done. a little update.. we had previously planned on double doors for the closet (which i cannot find one single photo of btw) but realized last week this would cut the space for a bedside chest down to almost nothing on that side so sean took our double door down to a single and is finishing the mudding and sanding of the bedroom getting us ready for paint tomorrow or wednesday. i see a trip to wally world for hangers in my very near future. → good news.. the bathroom is primed, painting has started, the bedroom is plastic sealed {very dexter like}, the first round of sanding is over, he’s putting on the last thin coats of mud, and more priming & painting are on the weekend schedule. and the thing i am most excited about, next week… i’ll have a real honest-to-goodness normal closet again, although i do have to share it and this is one place i typically prefer not to. he likes to not share cake & cookies, i like to not share closet space.
