we now have doors on both bathrooms & the bedroom, we’re shy one door, the closet, and are on the hunt for one. he first built the frame for the door, routed the door for hinges, we went with four hinges instead of the standard two because our doors are 8 ft tall and solid wood.. super heavy. he even got the trim around the door and is now putting the trim around the rest of the doors this week.. such progress, we feel like we can see a teeny tiny light at the end of the tunnel.
on another subject.. the camera and i do not get along when it comes to this master bathroom (hence the black & white today.. a bit more forgiving), the pictures always turn out weird colors, not sharp, so frustrating! entirely the camera i’m sure (; if any of you reading know of easy online software for creating collage photos will you PLEASE send me an email or leave the info in a comment? the software i used closed shop and i have yet to find a simple site for combining multiple photos into one, and can i just say it’s making me a little crazy.

are you excited? haha.. probably not, but here’s a little update of our weekend (; he hung the bedroom doors (as my mom pointed out… no need to say master bedroom doors when you only have ONE bedroom) both were hung but this photo with the mister over smiling won out on pictures to share, and our fancy wall hung toilets come with dual buttons (you know… for number one and two) but we kept saying the buttons aren’t fitting, explaining, explaining, ad nauseum and finally! they figured out that they gave us the wrong buttons, we just received the correct ones and now we have flush buttons (told ya it was exciting). it may be tiny but we’re making progress, and have we said thank you for following along lately? because we’re so happy for all of you who do!

→ do you sleep with a noise machine or fan? we sleep with a very loud fan, without that noise we’re completely lost. monday night, 2:30 a.m. and we’re both wide awake because all of a sudden it’s completely silent and that sinking feeling sets in that the power’s out, and it was, until afternoon yesterday. back up for a minute… to get some light in the house i pull open the curtain and cannot believe it but this ↑ is what i was looking at. OYE. it was EIGHTY degrees less than 48 hours ago. it’s kind of an adjustment. we did get everything out of our cargo trailer, we’ve gotten further on the closet, but we feel like boxers dancing around a big to do list. snow, ice, rain, no power. we’re getting there though, we just don’t have much to show for it. have any of you built a house and lived in it at the same time? if you have we know that no explanation is necessary. we’re becoming very well versed in flexibility.

→ how was your weekend? it was high 70′s, sunny, and felt like early summer here and we were outside for about every minute of it. not just lounging about mind you, we had a mega yard sale friday and saturday. when we left the carolinas over a year ago we sold about 90% of our stuff, keeping only the most sentimental things and the furniture and accessories that we thought were essentials for when we eventually started over. we didn’t want to reinvent the wheel when we did settle so we kept washer & dryer, table & chairs, you get the idea. the lesson we learned is, unless you wouldn’t part with it no matter what, it might be a better idea to just go ahead and let it all go. none of those essential items even come close to fitting in our new house. full size washer and dryer.. ha! table & chairs, only if we don’t want any other furniture in the living room.
so instead, 15 months later we’re letting these things go. good news.. we sold almost everything, it was a huge success, we opened early, stayed late, the people came, bought, and took our treasures to their homes. fortunately we didn’t lose money having kept these things, we purchased a cargo trailer prior to moving to store and haul our stuff (instead of renting a storage unit) and that trailer was a great investment. we highly recommend buying one to anyone doing similar to what we did because.. guess what else sold at the yard sale? yep, our trailer. we got over 90% of the money we had invested in it back in our pockets, cheapest storage & move ever! only one teeny tiny caveat. we haven’t sanded the living room/kitchen walls yet and we need to do that before we move the last of our things in (the dust goes everywhere) and the trailer is getting picked up on tuesday, so uhmmm.. we have a lot to do in the next few days. a lot.

so we know it’s been a tiny bit quiet this week, but here’s the deal..

so, we’re busy busy, but no diy.. back monday. have a great weekend!

yesterday we threw work to the wind and took the first half of the day off. we did a little sightseeing in boulder and golden, had a picnic lunch in the park, did a bit of thrifting, and had a big dose of a reminder of why we moved here. it is so beautiful, it’s amazing that just 15 minutes outside of our little town it’s wide open views with the rockies in the very near distance.
and….although extremely tempted to do nothing but sit in the sun the rest of the day, we did manage one or two projects. proof… our new closet ceiling light, it’s from lowes (no link because despite having item number & name, it will not come up online). we used daylight bulbs to get the most natural light we could and chose a bigger fixture because our clothes are going to be hung 3 levels high on each side and we need all the light we can get to see everything we plan to cram organize in there. and the other thing we accomplished? we organized about a thousand tools, i swear tools are like rabbits. hmmm.

three projects that moved a bit further along over the weekend.. the bathroom ceiling is up in it’s entirety, now to paint. the can lights in the shower are in & working, as is the fan, and see the speakers in photo two? we’ve got surround sound in each of the rooms (you know all three of them). we’ve got more to show, but this morning.. we’re getting out and about and sightseeing a bit, it’s sunny and beautiful and we just can’t help ourselves.

»»» how was your weekend? we had blue skies and seventies, so it was pretty perfect around our house. we cleaned our yard (which during construction takes about half of a hot minute to get trashed), walked all over town enjoying spring flowers and trees blossoming, hung out with the two cutest redheads ever (and the mr of the trio.. note to self, picture of all three next time!), ate amazing pizza from city o city, and a weekend or so ago we actually went out on the town, a rarity for us, and watched layden and his band, talk all night, perform. (if you’ve been following along with us, you’ll remember layden from this past summer, our neighbor who very kindly helped us with various jobs around camp1899). we even did a fair amount of projects inside the house… you’ll see this week. lastly we had a daniel craig weekend, have you seen dream house? it is really good, and we watched the girl with the dragon tattoo (which we knew nothing about prior to watching) and liked it a lot as well, until that last 5 minutes. don’t you hate it when that happens? have you seen any good movies lately?

→ one of the many multi-tasking projects this week is the master bathroom ceiling. we continued with the blue beetle wood (except in the shower area), above is board one.. to half way. the bathroom is almost all carrara marble so we’ll be painting this wood white, unlike the rest of the house which we left natural. it’s a bit of a process, next week we should have tons to share… except it is going to be mid seventies all weekend and that is hard to resist… but we’re motivated so we should be able to mix work & play. (we’re hoping!) have a great weekend!!
