north & west yellowstone are both fun little mountain towns,
(great places to stay if you don’t camp/stay in the park)
…and the scenery of north yellowstone made us never want to leave…
hmmm.. do you see it?
«liberty cap, named after it’s resemblance to the peaked caps worn during the french revolution»
mammoth is at the northern entrance to yellowstone (on the montana border),
from west to north is only 45 minutes. east yellowstone was still closed for winter.
can you imagine living where it’s still winter in june? i’d never make it.
you’d expect some sort of rumbling or gurgling when old faithful starts to “erupt” but it’s completely silent.. who knew? old faithful is so reliable they actually have a schedule for the whole day down to within twenty minutes. (a few hours lapse between eruptions & it lasted about ten minutes start to finish)
that’s allll folks!
→ wouldn’t it be nice to cozy up to one of these hanzel & gretel worthy fireplaces.. hot toddy in hand. if you stay here you can watch old faithful erupt from the second story balcony ←
«« a neigbor geyser gave us a show while we waited for old faithful to erupt » »
the steam was so strong at times that we couldn’t see three feet in front of us, our hair was damp and everyone’s glasses were totally fogged. the steam comes and goes in strength but is always rolling off of the geysers, it stretches and blows across the landscape and can be seen from miles away as you approach, we felt like we had free facials. (;
→ saint anthony is little town america going about it’s business.. not a lot going on but a fun little stop on our way into yellowstone…and we’re loving how beautiful it is in this part of the country.. have you been?
