this hike seemed innocent when we started and then.. we got a little bit further and started seeing specks. followed immediately by the sinking feeling that they were people and maybe, just maybe, we should not have hiked 9 miles prior to starting this hike.
the rock mountain you zig zag your way up is hot as blue blazes and goes on forever. we had flashbacks of ryan mountain in joshua tree. we hiked early’ish in the day (not early enough) and it was march, and only in the sixties, and it still felt like we were sitting on the sun. in the summer, forget about it. is it worth it, yes. and he said he didn’t need shorts that day, quit asking him, ha!

can you see me? ↑

we took a little off road adventure, a dirt road winding thru tall sand dunes and big views…

i don’t know how much is too much when it comes to travel pictures, i’m trying to keep it as concise as possible so we don’t turn into those people. we have two more hikes within arches that i just can’t not show you and we still have our visit to canyonlands. oof. are you worried? (; national parks are so amazing, to think that such vast and extreme beauty and landscapes are right outside our backdoors. we feel so lucky that most of our park visits (nationwide) have been like private tours, there have been so few visitors that it’s been like having the parks to ourselves; it’s definitely a perk if you can visit in the off-seasons (especially if you want photos).
is it warm and spring like where you are? it’s getting colder by the minute here and snow, snow and more snow is on the forecast for our days ahead. times like these i really miss the south. march means warm days and daffodils and nothing but sunshine on the horizon when you’re below the mason-dixon line. but i keep telling myself it also means mosquitos and humidity and sweating. all of which i will have none of come spring and summer in colorado. patience.

we’re home! moab was such a good little getaway, i’m sorting through our photos of arches, dead horse, and canyonland parks and will be sharing this week (get ready slideshow). todays photo’s are from our drive home, we had planned to stay in the mountains and soak in a hot springs but the weather forecast was rain and we decided to do a driving tour of towns along the way instead and get home while the sun was shining. we drove through telluride, ouray, montrose, gunnison (along black canyon national park), and salida. we loved seeing so much of colorado that was new to us, and we’re forever smitten with moab and the neverending beauty of utah….. and we were home just in time for the husbands favorite holiday.

i know, i know.. where are the pictures of arches national park, we know what you two look like already! right?!! (; i took 200 photos today, the husband said wouldn’t it be funny to just load them all on the blog and be like.. here they are, good luck sorting through them. haha. but seriously, half are probably crap and then half of two hundred is still way-too-many so i’ve got some sorting to do. just how many pictures are too many? and we still have two more parks to see, scary….would you like to come over and watch a slide show with us? crickets all around.
anyhoo. here’s the dealio on pictures of yourself in beautiful places. the long arm shot is good. the first photo (above) was early in the morning and a couple + us were the only people for miles and they offered to snap a shot of us, ok, great! but otherwise we do the occasional scooch together honey, this is our big photo op! it doesn’t have to be perfect, it’s better that way. we went up to one of the more famous arches in the park and a woman and her daughter dominated the entire space taking at least fifty plus photos. oye. they were still at it twenty minutes later when we passed back by after doing the short loop hike at that stop. snap and go peeps, snap and GO.
