and the walls start crumbling down

in older homes a mixture of lath and plaster was most commonly used for building interior walls; lath is narrow strips of wood 2 inches wide and anywhere from 2 to 4 feet long and 1/4 inch thick that run horizontal and are nailed to wall studs and then covered in plaster. the whole process of tearing it down was messy! plaster after 100 years is extremely dusty and settles on everything in sight.
