we found it! this hike is the hike to go on if you can only go on one (close to denver). it’s just outside of conifer and morrison and has spectacular views start to finish; looking at redrocks from high above, multiple overlooks of the denver skyline and the plains, and who even knew that there was almost a summer white house? from the drawings it would have been amazing, and to have all of the top dogs stay in colorado for a bit each year would have been something. such a perfect day, and to have been able to go with the best peeps ever, i’m a lucky girl. (want to go? here’s the scoop)

it’s amazing how you can be in the heart of the city and 20 minutes later be in wide open land with the rocky mountains surrounding you. it’s one of the things we most love about denver, you truly get the best of both right in your backyard.

and this is why the park is only open limited months a year….snow, 10ft deep…

he and i are definitely those people who hear about bear attacks due to crowding/climate/global warming/etc. creating food shortages that lead to bears wandering into campgrounds and along populated hiking trails. we never forget it, sticking in our brains like glue. bears? mountain lions? no thanks. it really makes us pause when the biggest sign at the start of the trail is attention! mountain lion activity in this area! uhm, do we really, really want to go see the glacier that bad? we took the chance, mainly because the parking lot was full, and that meant there were people ahead of us, giving us ample time to run out screaming before them. seriously.

wanna go? here’s the link with directions & more specifics:
