i had a date with the best antique mall and my girlfriend jen yesterday… she has a booth at sleepy poet that i poked through forever, and then we both lost hours of time wandering up & down the aisles (if you are anywhere near charlotte it is a must-go-to kind of place!). so much good stuff.. if we had more than 528 sq. ft. of living space oh the things i could get myself into. i did leave with one southern tin and a teensy little santa cup and if we had dachsunds those cute weiner dogs would have been mine.
shopping antique malls is so fun, especially with a fellow thrift lover (be careful if you have the same taste though..), and they can be treasure troves, just remember that the booths in them are (usually) well curated collections & finds so it won’t necessarily be super cheap (compared to thrifting at a goodwill or similar), so expect prices that reflect the age and condition of the item and the rarity! it’s not a yard sale but you can still come away with amazing deals!! and remember those cute little santa mugs i mentioned the other day, jen surprised me with two more for my collection, just need an eggnog party now, thanks j♥

is it completely embarrassing to admit that the latest we stayed up this past weekend was 9:25, and that we were thrilled to have made it that late? it is, i know it is, but we had a lot of lost sleep from this past month, that’s our story and we’re sticking to it. we did meet up before the weekend with our niece, who of course moved here after we left…and had such a good time (although i yawned at least 15 times during dinner, pathetic).
we watched the funniest vince vaughn/ben stiller movie, the watch, have you seen it? hilarious! i had no idea what it was about and feared nothing but silly slapstick and instead loved it.. which then made me have-to-watch four christmases again; remember the scene where v.v. & reese are talking to the two guys describing the upcoming week of christmas with all of their family… SO funny.
i’m feeling sad that christmas is basically a week away. i feel this way every year, it goes by too fast. i love the holidays and work takes up so much of this season for us, but even if it didn’t there are so many seasonal things that i want to do and there never seems to be enough time. do you feel this way at all?
on a more positive note we’re super excited that our nyc trip is days away and the forecast is calling for a little snow on december 25th… a white christmas in new york, yes please! and did i mention we’re traveling by train? even though it’s not that far of a drive from nc (although the price to park would probably be equal to our room cost), we’d rather see the beautiful scenery from the train window, not get stuck in holiday traffic, and both be able to nap/read/watch a movie. it’s one of our favorite ways to travel… do you have any must try train routes in the u.s.? ok monday, here we go….

hellllloooo monday. we made it a whole month this past weekend, a month + 80 brightly lit homes. sunday night we drank a little champagne, looked at some pretty christmas lights, ate potato pancakes and drank german beer while laughing and reminiscing… and we stayed up past 8:30!!! it was amazing! (; we had a little talk time with max (the malamute), he kind of steals the show… hope you had a good one!

we’ve worked 25 twelve hour days so far and some days we feel great and some days we want to lay on the grass in front of our clients homes and take a nap. the other day i thought if you left me alone for like five minutes i might go into a sleep way too deep to get me out of, that or i might go completely crazy, it really could have gome either way. at 5 each morning i say – it’s time to make the donuts. (remember that commercial?)
i am a lucky girl in that i’m always healthy, am on the complete opposite spectrum of a hypochondriac, and therefore if anything ever pops up i’m always like it’s nothing, whatever….until i started getting these red bumps on my head, then my stomach, legs, and then, then i started thinking oh no. here i am working sun-up to sun-down and this is when some crazy who-knows-what is going to get me and i’m going to be stuck thinking why have i been doing all of this when i should have been doing a whole lot more of that. you know what i’m talking about. i ask him about it, nothing. days later i mention it again and finally (!!) he says oh yeah.. it’s the holly. it’s super poisonous, from all of the pricks you get crawling in and out of the bushes (me and everyone else mind you, not the mister who is always safely far away with his light pole.. such as the above photo of me against the wall after having just been pricked 50 times getting back there). so it’s not some crazy arse disease or anything, just holly. thank heavens. how was your weekend?

how can it be ten days till thanksgiving already? we’re in charlotte and the husband, the (wrangled) wife (; plus a few guys are hanging christmas lights on lots of beautiful homes. he is the master of stringing super tall trees and i’m the light tester of millions of little bulbs (aka rusty on christmas vacation). we’ve already been away from camp1899 for almost a month and it seems so far away now that we’re firmly planted in the south for the winter. i so miss southerners and southern ways and hello it’s snowing in edgewater again and it’s 70′s and shorts weather here. ahhhh southern winters. but… i already so love western summers and no humidity and no mosquitos, i feel really lucky to have both.
have you ever left a place and then gone back for a week or so and it’s almost like you never ever left? that’s how we feel in charlotte. we lived here for so long and work creates an immediate routine for us so it’s like we never uprooted, traveled, bought a house in a faraway state, or any of it. can you relate to that? i’d love to know if any of you’ve ever felt this way, surely we’re not the only ones! hope you had a good weekend, we cannot wait to see skyfall, the mister and i.. we ♥ james bond. (no spoilers please!! we’re waiting for a holiday or a rainy day to go and watch…)

well kids, it’s that time of year again! we’re on the road to charlotte and are cruising through nebraska as you read this. we might stay over in lincoln tonight, any recommendations for lincoln or other nebraska must sees? we’re sad to be leaving our little town of edgewater, but excited to be going south, we both really miss those southern ways. we’re doing a little meandering on the way and even planned a fun getaway with a certain miss lindsey and her husband. helloooo sandy beaches, please be warm & sunny when we get there. and then, work. the husbands clients are anxiously awaiting his arrival because, can you believe, it’s time to hang christmas lights? (well in a couple of weeks anyway..). time is going by so fast, it seems like a blink since we were headed back from christmas season last year. i’ve been thinking a lot about all the changes we’ve made these past two years.. more to share later because honey child… we’ve got some packing of the car to do!
