Okay, this is ridiculous. Tell him that Diet Dr Pepper doesn’t hold a candle to Coke Zero (or Pepsi Max, for me). If he doesn’t come around, wait until he finishes the house and then hire some (gentle) thugs to teach him a lesson about soda.
