…of all the roadside attractions we saw this past year,
nothing shocked me as much as rounding the corner of the road
and seeing paul bunyan & the babe (see our visit here).
{want your own bunyan & the babe? from top right 1, 2&3, 4, 5, 6&7}

We drove around a curve in the road and I actually gasped because nothing could have surprised me more than seeing these right in front of us. Paul Bunyan & the Babe are along 101-S in California and as you can see by me & the mr (and how small we are) they are huge statues. SO fun, and kind of in the middle of nowhere which makes them even better!

The hammering man in Seattle is located by the Seattle Art Museum (which has a fantastic gift shop!) and is 48 feet tall and 26,000 pounds of fabricated steel. The arm is mechanical and swings the hammer 4 times per minute 7a.m. to 10 p.m 7 days a week. We were surprised to learn that it is one of three hammering men statues, a smaller version (and first of the three) is in Frankfurt and the largest is in Seoul.

we don’t eat meat but in amarillo the Big Texan is one of the main (and only) attractions
and we didn’t want to disappoint our fans (i know i know, what fans?!) but anyway…
we had to go and see what the fuss was about and he had a texas sized breakfast instead.

there were some funny comments on the winners board, many with mention of how long
they spent in the john after finishing the meal.. not hard to imagine with a gut busting 72 ounces of beef.

challengers sit at an elevated table above the main dining floor & the timer above
counts down from 60 minutes for all to see..but no takers while we were there.

he ate the whole thing….
remember the commercial??

(amazingly we saw billboards advertising The Big Texas in Arizona..)

Cadillac Ranch is a motherload as far as roadside attractions go, definitely one of the best we’ve seen. I took tons of photos because of all I had heard about Cadillac Ranch I had never seen any pictures of the cars up close and thought you might not have either.. so here you go!

Hey.. it’s no Eiffel Tower, but I couldn’t resist… (:
(wanna go.. it’s just West of Amarillo off of I-40, exit 60.
It’s on a frontage road (old route 66) and has a gate that’s always open)

We ran into this giant cut-out family outside of Temecula, CA, they’re so unexpected when you aren’t aware of or looking for them..as was our case. (wanna see them? they’re very close to Diamond Valley Lake, off of Hwy 74 East towards Hemet, CA. Turn right on Winchester Road, South towards Temecula, go about 10 miles and you’ll run right into them)

Later we saw this second billboard with a giant baby boy and his toy tractors. (to see this one.. it’s just outside of Goodyear, AZ, off of I-10 and not accessible by foot, be at the ready with your camera as you drive by)
