driving thru reno..

0

The tail end of our trip back to Denver got cut a bit short as we were needed for some last minute paperwork to close the house, so we didn’t get to dig into the city of Reno and see what it’s all about like we had hoped. We drove in at night, which was cool, we never traveled except during the day and it’s a whole different atmosphere pulling in in the evening (because of hooking up eddie, we avoided night travel so as not to be setting up in the dark) and then had to be on our way the very next morning. I took some fun snapshots as we headed out of town and wanted to at least show you a slice of “the biggest little city in the world.”

hello & goodbye. las vegas.

♠ sin city in the rear view ♠

I won’t do a looky-loo review this time.. as we did that here. Instead, a summary… For anyone that has not visited here we give it a thumbs up. It certainly turns off those firmly against gambling and it’s a bit more explicit than most towns, but, it’s a town that can surprise you.

I definitely wanted to go and was very much looking forward to it, but what I didn’t expect was to find it as relaxing as I did. We both found that it has the convenience of all of the things you need..stores, etc., plus warm weather for enjoying the outdoors (minus middle of summer maybe) and no matter when you decide that you need a little action, it’s just a few minutes away.

Unless you live in a major city like NYC or LA not too many places can you go out on a Tuesday night (for example) and be guaranteed tons of people out and about and the town all lit up. We don’t go out much generally but knowing that when you do want to it’s already going.. is nice. Also, the volume of shows that the city offers as well as events that come in and out of town… there is no lacking for entertainment.

We found between both of our stays more than we could get to was available. We managed to see most but not all of the hotels up close, a few of the free shows, the neon lights of old downtown.. but still didn’t see a formal show or many other things.

If you are in the mood for a mix of relaxing and fun it really is hard to beat. This being said, it is truly an adult town, if traveling with kiddos, I don’t know that I’d make it a stop.

going to the chapel.. vegas style

0

Before arriving in Vegas we had this idea that little wedding chapels would be all up & down the strip. (we hear stories of Vegas and marriage almost as much as the gambling so…), but when we got here we didn’t see any chapels. Once we took the long walk down to the end of the strip by the Stratosphere we finally saw the infamous Chapel of the Bells and one or two others. So it’s not chapels, chapels everywhere…just a couple on the run-down, not so glitzy end of the strip, by the no-tell motels.

…..trying to duck the proposal.. ahh not so fast kemo sabe

freemont street neon.

We feel like we’ve really seen Vegas now.. on the far end of town (past Circus Circus & The Stratosphere) is old downtown and has tons of restored vintage neon lights from the strip, they’re split between Freemont & Freemont East. (across the street from each other..tomorrow we’ll show you F.East) We had so much fun in this part of town, it’s not as glitzy or glamorous but the lights totally make up for it.

treasure island.

One of the free shows on the strip is the pirate show at Treasure Island. We were told it was a must see but didn’t know anything about it prior to going, we had the idea that it would be somewhat of a swashbuckler pirate show. We were so wrong. The first pictures show what we thought it would be…..

What it really is. The above photos were the few minutes where things are smoky and cannons are firing…and this is where the show we expected started and stopped. The other 98% of the show was comprised entirely of scantily dressed girls gyrating on deck, not exactly not Vegas, just not what we were expecting (or in the mood for). We don’t mind dancing girls, in fact I think the showgirls are amazing. This show however, not so much.

(The volcano and the pirate show are at the same time, if you have to choose, go with the volcano.)
