best laid plans

0

As full time travelers you soon realize that plans are best left… loose. The best laid plans can (and usually do) sound perfect, but life and mother nature and potholes, or ??? often have other ideas in mind. Flexibility is one of the best things about living on the road. You can go wherever, whenever, for the most part, but too often people get set ideas in their minds and when the other foot falls, they feel anxious.

We both are flexible, we want what we have in our minds, but when it doesn’t work, we adjust. While in California we had big plans for the gray tank, for Sequoia and beyond.. and it wasn’t meant to be. (within our immediate plans) If you stay attached to these ideas, you lose. Instead, make plans, hope for the best and if it works, great, if it doesn’t, something else is just down the road.

We have found (and are sure many full-timers experience this), that you go into a place and have an idea of staying 4 days or a week or whatever and you’re there two nights, you both wake up, look at each other and say.. you know… it’s time to go. Flexibility.

If full-time (or even part time travel) is a dream of yours we both think evaluating your level of control (some might say issues..) and how go-with-the-flow you feel you are capable of being is a great point to assess about yourself. Cliche as it is, there’s a lot of truth to the saying, the thing that remains unchanged is that things always change. Nothing could be truer when on the road, the weather changes, the places you go change, the car/trailer/rv working the same as the day before.. changes.

Can you be less rigid and still have fun? Can the bumps in the road not derail you? If yes, it is one of the many things that will help you when you hit the road.
