a walking brewery tour..

0

Our favorite tour, hands down, the Denver Microbrew Tour. It’s a two hour walking/drinking tour through LoDo (lower downtown Denver), downtown Denver and the ballpark neighborhood, includes stops at 4 microbreweries with little history lessons along the way..cool history lessons, like why one street’s been re-named how many times? It’s $25 per person (thanks Nancy & Emily for treating us!!) and we all agreed that you get your monies worth. The four stops are: Breckenridge Brewery & Pub (our starting point), Falling Rock Taphouse (seemed to be a true locals joint, complete with beer bottles & taps covering almost every open space), Wynkoop Brewing Company (Colorado’s first brewpub and where we tasted a chile beer..very interesting, and a great black lager), and our last stop,  Rock Bottom Brewery (and my favorite beer of the day..).

The Mr and I love pumpkin beer in October and try to sample as many as we can each year..
Rock Bottom surpassed any & all, best pumpkin beer ever!!!!

We were all a little hesitant after our last tastings but pressing on we stopped at Avery. (it was overflowing packed, encouraging…) I tried Freckles Saison, Ellie Brown, and Out of Bounds Stout. Maybe the name one me over (being a freckled girl and all) but Freckles Saison was really good, plus all of their beer samples were only a buck a pop and we all found beers we really liked.. success!

boulder beer company.

Are you wondering where we’re finding all this time to go beer & wine sampling? You know the saying.. someones gotta do it. (; Sean’s mom Nanc and sister Emily were in town last week and knowing how Colorado is infamous for microbreweries had picked a few to try. So.. we took off early a few afternoons to sample beers with the family.

Next stop..Boulder Beer Company (oldest microbrewery in Colorado) we missed the tour so we grabbed a sampler platter.. and I have to say, it wasn’t anybodies favorite. Out of 13 beers we couldn’t quite find a beer to suit us. Very hoppy, and ??? Not to dissuade though, it might be the bees knees for you.

denver metro chamber of commerce.

2

We were invited to a Denver Chamber of Commerce after hours event (co-hosted by the GQ Barber Lounge) and decided a little elbow rubbing wouldn’t be a bad way to spend the evening. (; It was a combination of a mini trade show for local businesses, a networking event, a 2012 Spring collection fashion show by American Crew and acrobatics to finish off the evening. While we typically don’t do a lot of networking of this kind, we are big supporters of the great work the Chamber of Commerce does, not only in Denver, but in all towns. Such a wealth of information and resources for individuals and businesses alike. The night did not disappoint.. here’s a peek at the festivities…

creekside winery.

2

We visited one of the most quaint mountain towns, Evergreen (and only a half hour from us). We fully intended to walk the town, check out the sites, but uhm.. well, we parked in front of this winery and didn’t really make it anywhere else. We went in to see if Creekside offered tastings, they did, and a tad bit later we walked out. Bill (owner extraordinaire) took us through many a tastings, was incredibly generous and kind, and surprised us with the first ports (not one, but two) we had ever tried and loved.. the Lakehaus Port and the Lakehaus 10 year Tawny Port. The first perfect on it’s own or with dark chocolate, the Tawny paired with candied walnuts or pecans. And yes, we left with a bottle. (we couldn’t help ourselves!) Port in front of our future fireplace… yes, please!

echo lake lodge..

2

Echo Lake Lodge is completely charming. We felt like we had stepped back in time a few years to what lake lodges were like in the 60′s.. cozy, inviting, a little kitsch and perfect for a long weekend. The lodge was closing up for winter, icicles already hung from the porch and the wind was frigid. Inside is the cutest tourist gift shop we’ve ever been in. There are rooms above the gift shop that face down onto the huge fireplace. (as well as a whole slew of rooms in the main part of the lodge) They have a dining room and snack counter, the lake is a stones throw from the parking lot, and just up the hill is the summit of Mt. Evans… we’ll definitely be making at least one visit here each year, so fun.

echo lake & america’s highest paved road..

1

→we had the best time on our day trip to echo lake.. it was the most perfect day. i still can’t get over the scenery here. the road to the lake is the highest paved road in america, ending at just over 14,000ft. the air was so crisp, at home it was 70+ degrees and there only 39…. something about echo lake and the lodge is so charming, i can’t wait to go back.←
