life in the fast lane

9

we had a full & busy & wonderful weekend… so much so that i’m going to have to split it into 2 posts this week. first up… echo lake. we have been 3 times prior to this visit and even though all were in the summer we had never caught the road to mt. evans open. finally! we were able to go to the top and it’s no wonder the road isn’t open for long, it is narrow and crumbling away into the abyss (which as the passenger you are very aware of). the higher you go, the rockier and more barren the landscape, but beautiful. it’s super cold. we went from 78 to 48 and windy (take a coat for sure).

we saw tons of mtn. goats, the photo above is not on zoom, me and billy goat gruff were eyeball to eyeball. he made a funny noise and the husband thought he was coming for me! ha! we started a hike and well… luckily we turned back, started to hail a little just as we reached the car. but that’s not the half of it. that hike.. that’s part two of our weekend, to be told later this week (it’s a good one). and to end the evening perfectly, fireworks. our little town’s show got cancelled over the fourth and put on quite the make-up show this past friday. we gathered with the neighbors, caught up on the gossip of the street, watched everything go boom and called it a night. how was your weekend?

oh, and… i had my first pumpkin beer of the season (at tommyknockers in idaho springs). summer really is over. ); but it was really good.

*please & thank you* link back to us if you re-post something you see here.

    I read that the 14 mile trip to the top can take a hour.
    More pic’s at the top please, nice NX T-Shirt !

      it did take an hour! it’s not the type of road to rush for sure (; although i took more pictures at the top, it was extremely hazy at that elevation and none of them really showed off the beauty of the landscape. close up’s were good but except for of us or goats, the only other close-up shots would be mainly rock. haha.. hoping next time will be clear in the distance. t.

    • tiffany says:

      haha! no coats.. for some reason (for limited amounts of time) that super crisp cold air doesn’t bother me much, but HE gets so cold so fast! we’re never going on a trip to higher elevations without him having a jacket (;

    I have to agree about getting cold fast. Looks fantastic at the top!! Will have to work on getting out in the summer to see it. Best pumpkin beer is out west.

    • tiffany says:

      nanc, the best pumpkin beer i’ve ever had was with you on the denver brew tour you took us on!!! and yes, you must get out here in the summertime (;

      or at least visit!! we’re already scheming what all we can do before some areas close for the season, summer always goes fast but especially so here where the weather dictates access!
