Fair Warning is a Van Halen Tribute Band that I just recently heard of through one of the band members, Matty (via a blog cyber-meeting through Tiffany & his wife Melodie). I want to give a shout to anyone who might be in Austin looking for a good act tonight.. they’re playing at Red 7 Nightclub with the opening band starting at 10 p.m. Tribute bands are some of the best acts because of their deep passion for the music, sometimes they can be better than the real deal because of this. Wish I was there to go, if any of you see the show give me a shout! Listen.

While exploring the countryside around Austin we went through the tiny town of Kyle. This one little mexican place was packing them in so we joined the crowds. It’s a very tiny place, the drive-thru stays backed up to the street and the menu is extensive. I tried the fish tacos with true spanish rice & black beans (which I ended up not able to eat because they have pork in them). The tacos hit the spot, I do wish I had ordered the shrimp tacos which were grilled as the fish was fried. Great locals hole in the wall.

South Congress in Austin is an explosion of food carts. I stopped by The Mighty Cone twice, on day one I needed a power snack and got the french fry cone with home-made ketchup, on day two I needed a heartier snack and got the sweet chili shrimp cone with the the (optional) fried avocado topper.. a definite must. When I took my first bite it was good, but I thought it was off, turns out what I thought was the fried avocado was really fried chicken (first bite of chicken in about 5 years) turns out my order and the guy after me got switched. Only one bite though and I had my shrimp cone. The prices are great, the fries were $1.50 and the shrimp cone was $5.95 + extra for the fried chicken avocado.
