this is our last week in our home for the past 6.5 years. moving is funny. funny odd. uou invest a good deal of time decorating, arranging, painting, caring for your home… then one day it’s time to go. there’s no send off, no farewell, the house sits quietly as it always has. you one day, like any other day, lock the door, get in the car and go… but this time… you don’t drive back. the house is there, just like yesterday, but elvis has left the building.

we have had a lot of good times at our little townhome. we’ve made good friends here, right outside the backdoor, people walking by, stopping, becoming fast friends. we have loved the neighborhood. we walk everywhere and everyone knows us at the grocery store.

what does it take to make a house a home? treat everywhere you live like home and not a temporary space. lots of people don’t decorate or paint or hang pictures because it’s not “permanent.” permanent is an illusion, decorate. we moved in and changed lights and paint and hardware and our outside patio got a total overhaul. we did all of this immediately, we had no idea if we would be here more than a year, much less 6 and a half. but even if it had been one year, one year is a lot of days to live just-so.

we have had all of this in mind when renovating our airstream. our little home on wheels will be no different than any other home. we’ll make it feel as cozy and comfortable as our brick and mortar counterparts have been. treat your travel trailer or motorhome the same.. take the fancy silverware if that’s what you love the most, use the best sheets, put in a flat screen tv if you love to watch the telly.

we have the place stripped down to the bare bones, it’s us, clothes and boxes this week. we have such a fun adventure ahead of us, we can’t wait to share it with all of you. my parents have traveled the u.s. numerous times… my dad isn’t around to see sean and i follow in their footsteps but they paved the way for us and he would have loved what we’re about to do.

when he was little he used to want to go with his sister if she was heading out somewhere and she would say… grab your toothbrush.

This is a momentous post and there is just so must emotion and anticipation – your words are perfect today and they probably still do not completely encompass all you are feeling these last few days.
