lots to share next week, have a good weekend!
i know, i know.. where are the pictures of arches national park, we know what you two look like already! right?!! (; i took 200 photos today, the husband said wouldn’t it be funny to just load them all on the blog and be like.. here they are, good luck sorting through them. haha. but seriously, half are probably crap and then half of two hundred is still way-too-many so i’ve got some sorting to do. just how many pictures are too many? and we still have two more parks to see, scary….would you like to come over and watch a slide show with us? crickets all around.
anyhoo. here’s the dealio on pictures of yourself in beautiful places. the long arm shot is good. the first photo (above) was early in the morning and a couple + us were the only people for miles and they offered to snap a shot of us, ok, great! but otherwise we do the occasional scooch together honey, this is our big photo op! it doesn’t have to be perfect, it’s better that way. we went up to one of the more famous arches in the park and a woman and her daughter dominated the entire space taking at least fifty plus photos. oye. they were still at it twenty minutes later when we passed back by after doing the short loop hike at that stop. snap and go peeps, snap and GO.
the drive from denver to moab is so beautiful… watching the landscape change from snow covered rockies to desert mountains and rock, it really is amazing. but oh my word, scenic byway 128 (just over the border of utah) is gobsmacking. it’s one of those roads that when you turn onto it off of the highway you don’t know if you’re making a good decision or not. it’s not marked as a byway (on the hwy at least), it’s an old road, no one is on it, there are cattle crossing guards, you’re not really, but you feel off the grid. we braved it. woohoo!
we saw maybe three cars the whole way and those were in the first five minutes. this is definitely the road to take to moab and the parks. the last 20 miles or so we started passing campgrounds and so many tents, we’ve really never seen so many. the first, and more off-on-its-own site we passed was the dewey bridge campground (overlooking the river and the historic bridge pictured above), and further down the road, closer to moab, we passed 11 more. all are bureau of land management campgrounds, for info on each go here. it took us all of about two minutes to decide to come back and camp at one of these riverfront sites. (some are tent only, some are rv friendly so check the list!)
we’re up early and off to go hike the day away in arches national park, did you know it has over 2000 formations, more than anywhere else in the world? we did not. and we can’t wait to see so tata for now!
we did it! we checked the weather and our planned trip dates weren’t going to be as pretty as it was this week so we switched everything around, jumped in the car (during a non-forecasted mega snow), and one tire change later we’ve landed. i can only say… it is spectacular. but we’re off to explore, moab pictures later alligators.
tgif! a final peek from our christmas visit to the the big apple! there’s something special about walking the brooklyn bridge (although so cold this year!), and the views looking back at the city are just the best. we finally saw janes carousel (we watched a sunday morning episode detailing the history & restoration forever ago). i mean a carousel overlooking manhattan… seriously, it doesn’t get much better. but you know what we fell in love with? williamsburg. great vegan food, catbird (which i had to go to twice because i am completely over the moon for their rings). we’re certainly no experts on brooklyn and it’s boroughs but williamsburg we kinda love. what are your plans for the weekend? we’re working and going to one of our favorite places, redbox. (;
these photo’s are not the best quality but! for huge blown up/ripply images hanging on a chainlink fence in brooklyn (see how i worked that excuse reason right over to the image… not the photographer’s lack of skills, obviously) i had to capture them because uhmm.. hello! wonder woman getting lipo? too good to pass up. what do you think about the everyday superhero life??
it’s our long good-bye to new york city… one more post to go about our adventures in brooklyn and then i’ll quit, promise! the first time i visited nyc i was head over heels, i could have never ever left and been happy as a clam and each visit since leaves me feeling much the same way. there are a million ways to see the city, to be a tourist, but what the husband and i love the most is being out & about on the streets, in the parks, in the neighborhoods, walking everywhere and soaking it all in. and the food. thank goodness for lots of walking because we walk off the many meals, and the bagels!! i don’t know about you but at almost 50 carbs a pop they are *not* a breakfast staple at our house (post breakfast nap anyone?), but we cannot resist when there. central park, the high line, riverside, walking the brooklyn bridge, williamsburg, so much to see, can’t wait till next time! and i’m so missing christmas already, didn’t it go by way too fast?
i’m using the first of the year, everybody is still adjusting, wait.. christmas is over.. thoughts everyone is having (you’re thinking this too right??) in hopes that no one reading will notice my multiple (as in more to come…) posts of nyc. i just can’t help it. we so loved our trip and i took a few or more photos that i feel a strong need to document, and that’s what life’s all about sometimes, it could be a slideshow…
happiest new year everyone! the husbands lucky number is thirteen so we’re thinking that’s gotta count for something extra good this year, please, please! we’re off to a good start so far… we paid off the last little bits of our renovating debt (hip hip huge hooray!!!), we’re healthy, excited to head back to camp1899 soon, finish more home projects (!!), travel, and who knows what else. i love new year’s, doesn’t it feel good to have a clean slate? i have lots of marbles rolling around in this head of mine, goals and lists and plans for 2013.. i’m feeling hopeful. (;
above are a few pictures from our walks around manhattan.. we miss the city as soon as we leave but north carolina welcomed us back with full sunshine and 25 degree warmer weather so we’re not really complaining. i wore five layers and double socks daily to keep warm in ny, but hey it worked (double socks are a must).
and i am super thankful to have started off the new year relaxing with my husband, because tomorrow, tomorrow we work. hello 2013!
we can’t believe it’s over. we had the best time in nyc and now are en route via amtrak back to north carolina. why do vacations go by so fast?! i took tons of photos to share next week (ready for nyc overload anyone?). in the meantime…send us good thoughts for a smooth, fast, uneventful, and peaceful train ride. let’s just say that on the way up we had multiple delays, including the train being searched by police not too long after we were delayed next to a prison.. hmmmmm. AND the only baby on the entire train sat directly behind us and bose noise cancellation headphones do not even come close to drowning out crying babies. (although, to the baby’s credit, it was a looong day and she did great all things considered). we’ll be back in the south just in time for new years, any fun plans? resolution making? it’s almost time….
