waving

»»»» southerners are waving folks. we wave at each and every car, truck and horse that we pass…whether we know them or not. if you don’t wave it might become talk at the diner…well, I passed betty catherine on the way into town and she didn’t wave, wonder what’s going on with her? (see what I mean?) everyone has a type of wave too, maybe even a few types per person. some people just lift one finger (not that finger) off the steering wheel, others wave like there’s no tomorrow, some give a sort of half salute type wave. whatever wave you prefer is fine, just don’t not wave.

coca cola

→ a nice treat on a hot day is coke & peanuts. this might not seem so southern at first pass… but we put the peanuts IN the coke bottle. you need to get a good cold glass bottle coke, preferably a 6.5 oz one, and a small bag of salted peanuts, pour them in…and enjoy.

eat-your-peas

january 1st

»»» eating black-eyed peas on new years is a tradition in the south…it’s said to bring good luck and prosperity to the diner. a fully traditional meal would consist of black-eyed peas, which represents coins and greens (collards, mustard or turnip and sometimes cabbage) which represents paper money. and if you want to round out your meal, cornbread.. representing gold. a little of all three please!
