some days this is what is needed, a good, stiff, drink. i’m a little grandmotherly in my libations (or so i’ve been told); what is not strong to me at all curls the lips and faces of those who take a sip, especially the husband. i love a good single barrel whiskey. my favorite mix is a good pour, a few splashes of coconut water (this is my fave), and several slices of fresh squeezed lime. i varied this past weekend and included our last blood orange of the season, good stuff for these newly sunny and high seventy degree days.
do you have a signature drink? (for hot days, my and his favorite, greyhounds. they’re almost too good.)

him

happy weekend everyone! we have sunshine on the forecast and please let it come and stay, like for good. this cute blue-eyed boy took me on a date to the ogden theater last night to see jim james perform. wow. we saw him (with my morning jacket) in concert last summer at redrocks and were blown away by his voice live. we could not pass up the opportunity to see him in a small venue because with all great artists you just never know how long you’ll have that chance.

his stage presence is amazing, a little bit old school. his voice goes without saying. and his band, there was a drum solo that started with three (i guess not exactly a solo at that point) and ended with the main drummer and the whole thing was mind boggling it was so good. talent in spades. if you have any opportunity to see this tour, go! we listened to some of the album we weren’t familiar with before going and live was night and day by comparison. (it’s hard to beat watching him make the music come alive)

otherwise, we’re working on that new closet door, it’s been a bit of a pita. and we have a few other little diy’s on the agenda for the weekend, and if it’s sunny you know a lot of soaking that in will be on the forefront. in case i haven’t said it lately, thank you to all who follow and comment and share in this little corner of the world of ours, we appreciate you so much! makes everything seem bigger you know?

brave him

building, rebuilding, renovating, the whole lot of it is not for the faint of heart. i dare say you must be brave to even put yourself through it. i look back at where we were when we started this house project of ours and cannot believe how far we’ve come; sometimes those big gigantic projects of the early months seem easier than the smaller projects we have remaining. some days are flat out hard, especially when you’re one and only is doing all of the work.

it’s affordable to have the über handy husband do it all; and is the only thing that has allowed us to do
this renovation. but it’s a lot to put on one person and no matter what i offer to do, at the end of the
day a builder i am not, and some days 528 square feet doesn’t feel as spacious as others, you know what
i mean? when (supposed to be) small projects go awry and instead of an hour, it’s a day, with an entire half day or more needed, it’s stressful. i am sure that anyone reading who has built a home can relate whole heartedly.

it is theorized that a president ages something like double time for each term in office, i wonder if the same is true for couples who renovate, haha! at the end of the day i sure am thankful for everything, and for those not-so-smooth days, i’m thankful for five o’clock. (;

groceries

this bag is hilarious! don’t you always feel this way? we go to the store, come away thinking we’ve stocked up, that we’re good to go for awhile, and then two days later i’m staring into the abyss wondering why is there nothing to eat. we’ve blinked and we’re struggling to put a dinner together, what happened to all of the food that we just bought?? if it’s not where did all the food go, it’s wait.. we have to decide again what to have for dinner, didn’t we just do this yesterday??? seriously. we can’t be the only ones. (bag found here)

we went on another museum date (clyfford still) and i loved the red/yellow/blue (+ black & white) exhibit. i very much like the idea of a massive piece of art in our home that is rich with paint in one of our favorite colors. i’m enjoying these art dates with husband, and then seeing his very cute face later in the photos he is so patient in letting me take. that photo of him just above.. i am in love with that man. he is so good to me, so generous and giving. i am lucky.

do you have fun weekend plans? we just learned that denver hosts the largest cinco de mayo festival & parade in the entire united states. i do love a parade, massive gatherings of people, usually not so much though. we shall see. and we’ll be tuned into the derby on saturday, do you have any favorites? if you choose purely by name (here’s a list) i’d have to go with itsmyluckyday. i always like to think so!

that cute husband of mine took me downtown earlier this week and we joined the denver art museum.
i already cannot wait to go back. we spent hours wandering and we still didn’t see everything, which is just how i would want it to be, makes going back sooner all the better.

art is so subjective. i love how differing viewpoints on one exhibit versus another can be so eye opening into what someone else loves or hates or is indifferent to. makes for very good conversation, don’t you think?

some of the exhibits we/i were so-so on, some surprised me SO much (when we turned the corner to the red + foxes i was in such shock, i loved it!), some were both well curated and educational, and a few
i was surprised would be in cahoots with such amazing laborious timeless art. one piece of art was comprised of stacks of used or semi-used rolls of tape with a few dirty objects like a beat up wiffle ball mixed in, something you might see stacked in the corner of your garage. i think part of art is to make you think, each piece a glimpse into the vast world and extremes within it; and the contrast of one particular piece versus another does tickle the brain waves, so there you go.

the last two paintings pictured (above) by thomas moran, were my absolute favorites. they are so amazingly beautiful in person and i can’t wait to go stare at them some more. the entire room of this exhibit was both his and my favorite of everything we saw. another favorite was the rocky mountain majesty exhibit, colorado at it’s finest for sure. we are both looking forward to seeing what we missed and taking second (and third) looks at much of what we saw, there is so much to take in! how about you, are you a member or visitor of your local museums?

thanks husband for a really good date. ♥ you.

patxispaxtis 1patxis 2 patxis 3

we had a very special date yesterday, and i have much to share mañana, but today just this snippet. it is no secret that i am completely smitten with patxi’s pizza after discovering them in san francisco; and considering it had been a decade prior to that visit since i’d had a good deep dish, i think we are doing exceptionally well having only gone yesterday and one other time since arriving back in denver. this is what i tell myself as i continue to eat ooey gooey leftovers.

now i will tell you how insanely good (and frustrating) it is to learn new things. i recently joined the big leagues (; and purchased a fancy, has a bazillion features, dslr camera. however, after a not so successful first go around with it i’ve been hesitant to use it. for starters i couldn’t even get the photos from the camera to the computer (how sad is that?!). i did finally (after my 5th or 6th attempt) realize that while i cannot get the cord that goes from the camera to computer to do a damn thing, uh HELLO, i can just stick the blasted photo card directly into my mac. hallelujah was sang multiple times having figured this out. yes you can laugh, because no, it was not obvious to me from the get go.

this moment felt so triumphant that it almost made me forget how insanely frustrated i was taking photos and not being able to do very-simple-things. oh-my-lord-in-heaven i am a slow learner when it comes to technology. this is my point people, stretch those wings, learn new things, or you’re likely to be ran over by a five year old. i phone, here i come.

bookstore mag

p.s. we also popped into the bookstore the other day (best photo of me yet!) and all of you fellow airstream lovers, have you seen how many silver bullet hotels are popping up? sunset magazine’s camping issue is out and oh how we are ready for a road trip, we are scheming for next week (fingers crossed for good weather!). and don’t you miss domino magazine? the spring issue is out and is very good, but it’s just not the same as when it was once a month. sigh.. please come back monthly domino!

everyday special

him 1

this is just a little, nothing out of the ordinary, stop in the middle of life moment. my love. my newly bearded man that i keep saying to, don’t cut it, not yet. who will make silly faces for me when i want a photo. who looks at me so often (and i say quit staring!) and says, you are so beautiful. who thinks i am funny, and may be the only person who thinks this is one of my strong suits. who knows i will always ask for a bite and will most of the time let me have it. (but if he really doesn’t want to share makes sure cheese is everywhere so he can blame it on that)

we have been having a string of snow days and we sit and watch the flurries pile up inch by inch and although we are ready for warm, we snuggle in and enjoy our little home. i am lucky. i am loved. he scooped me up and i didn’t know what was ahead and i am so looking forward to tomorrow and today and then all of the tomorrows after that. we have good neighbors, we have a good little town. we love taking walks together and he carries my library books to and from. we scheme travel plans far and wide and make plans for marathon tv while lying in bed. he opens doors for me and loves the silly voices i come up with for him, and i am thankful daily for all of these little mean-the-most things. my ♥ sweet boy.

i have always been a big bee gees fan and had no idea that man oh mine would end up being a barry gibb doppelganger (although his voice is most decidedly not that high). he can play by ear though, it’s one of those amazing little things, he hears it, once, and can do it. and if you’re going to look like someone, i think the young mr gibb is not a bad way to go.. and they both like to show off those pearly whites smiling for the camera. say cheese fellas. it might just amuse us but we get a good laugh out of it and he’s even going to learn a few of their tunes on his guitar, we’ll keep you posted, there are surely many more side-by-side photos to be shared.
